Artist Statement.

Growing up a dancer, staring into the warped mirror at the front of the ballet studio day in and day out built my world view into something that never looked quite right. What was supposed to be straight was bent, what was supposed to be tiny and fragile was large and imposing, a body that morphed and changed with every blink of the eye. Concentration on the tiniest detail, feeling correct, but looking into a version of yourself that appeared mistaken. That is often how I feel to this day.

Looking through a sharp photo lens has not changed this warped world view, only shown me that maybe in order to truly be ones self in a world like this, you must break the mold, and forge your own path.

My work explores this past and how it still morphs my artistic vision today. Through the fragmented mirrors of a disco ball, the intimate moments of my very not straight relationship, or the exploration of body and detail, each work intends to create a whole picture out of a magnified and detailed mess.
